Uppsala

Uppsala is our new home town. We live in a nice studio apartment with just everything we need, about five minutes from the central station. Once we get settled I will take up my photography again and show you around properly. Last couple of days we have been organizing and sorting out things. Finding out how everything works. Uppsala is a very nice and comfy town, but the weather is very different than I expected. It’s about zero celsius and very little snow. Well it is easy to get used to…

Furthermore, as a recent graduate (jeej :D ) I have been busy with job applications. Hopefully something good will come out if it. Many of the job openings seem very exciting. Otherwise, tomorrow is my first class in Swedish film and television culture. See you!

A new year, A new life, A new beginning

My life is changing rapidly. In just 12 days we will be flying to Sweden, with an one-way ticket to Stockholm, my love and I with all our stuff packed in bags and boxes off to the North…

I handed in my thesis just before Christmas. With some luck my teachers will approve it soon and then it is my turn to defend it and finally graduate. What an exciting year 2012 is going to be! I hope you’ve all had a wonderful holiday and a splendid New Year’s. A few words that capture my evening: champagne, good food, wonderful old and new friends, fireworks at the Chinese restaurant across the street and a lot of Hertog Jan beer. Christmas was: every night a dressed up dinner at friends and/or family, a lot of eating (I gained all my lost pounds), drinking, laughing, crying, hugging and love.

In between the celebrations there was room for a few days of love in foggy, cold and romantic Paris

okey.. relax!

It wasn’t the final day of my thesis! However, the struggle continues and in between I have done some Internet shopping for all the upcoming Christmas parties:

This Miss Candyfloss is great, the fabric is soft and it fits my body perfectly (I will upload my own pictures later):

I have also ordered another one today, for the less traditional parties. Hopefully this one fits as good as the other!

Grande Finale

Tuesday, the 13th. Is this the ‘final day’ of writing my thesis? We will see if it is tonight! With a small christmas tree decorated in white and silver, a great start with mjummie breakfast with yoghurt, blueberries and linseed, a pot of coffee in the making, a lazy big cat on the table, CNN on the background and my mind focused, it has to work. Let’s do this.

Have a nice day!

Visiting Gent

Last weekend I visited Gent in Belgium with one of my oldest and best friends Simone. The town swept me away with it’s cosy staircase shaped gables, friendly and heartening people, buildings of grandeur and style, tummy warming food like Gentse Stoverij (stew) and friet (thick Flemish fries), all making me feel welcome, relaxed and inspired.

In the middle of moving..

These couple of weeks are hopefully totally unrepresentative for the rest of my life. At least I hope my surroundings are, because personally I feel happy!

I am moving, living out of and in between boxes, trying to finish my thesis at my boyfriend’s mother’s kitchen table, planning our adventure in Sweden from the matress on the floor in my boyfriend’s old room surrounded by things packed, celebrating Sinterklaas and Christmas fleeing our own chaos, dreaming of order and our new home, meeting friends and slowly realizing I’ll won’t see them in a long time, laughing, crying and especially a lot of sleeping. In a little more than five weeks our plane to Stockholm departs. Exciting, scary and a dream coming true…

new website for my photography

Hey guys,

I just wanted to inform you about my new website Capulet Photography. I decided to put all my photography work there. This blog will become a more general page on me and what I am up to. I do a lot of different things, not only photography and writing, for example I also study Public Administration. Now I am finishing up my thesis I will hopefully soon become a Master of Science and start working fulltime. It would be sad when future employers google me and only find my photography, I mean it would be great, but it would not back up my academic or other professional capabilities. As we are planning an emigration to Sweden you can also follow this great step in our lives at Enkeltje Stockholm (only for Dutch readers). A hell lot of blogging, see you around,

xoxo

Project KABK- Table Top Photography

Here is the result of the assignment I talked about a couple of weeks ago. The idea was to introduce your subject to an audience. This is a personal account of my grandfather, with a picture of him as a young man, with on the background the places where he has lived, where he met my grandmother and objects portraying his interests.

Project KABK

I started working on my project for the KABK (Royal Academy of Art) this week. Tonight we are working with table top photography and the assignment is to represent one of your subjects (in my case: my dear grandfather)in a still life by displaying things that say something about your subject . The project is great fun and the last time I was so ‘artyfarty’ was in high-school. I like it. And I had a great excuse to spend some qualitytime with my grandfather last Saturday. I found the most amazing photos of his youth. Amazing that he still has so many pictures from the 30s, 40s and 50s. I took pictures of the photos with my own camera. Trying to save them and collect them. Anyhow, I will put up the final pictures of my project tomorrow. Now I’ll have to wake up a bit more with fresh French Press coffee and Frank Sinatra & Ella Fitzgerald’s Can’t we be Friends
